Title: Days Are Passing By
Author: noblealice
Fandom: His Dark Materials
Character: Lyra Silvertongue
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Prompt: #26 "We can never go back again, that much is certain. The past is still too close to us. The things we have tried to forget and put behind us would stir again, and that sense of fear, of furtive unrest...might in some manner unforeseen become a living companion, as it had before." --Daphne Du Maurier
Summary: Lyra lives in a world of memories, afraid to fully engage with the present. She is slowly healing, forgetting her promise to Will and instead retreating within herself. It takes the interference of the Church to wake her from her hesitancy to participate in life.
Spoilers: for all three books in the HDM trilogy (Northern Lights/The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass) and Lyra’s Oxford
Author's Notes: Title is from the lyrics of Diane Birch’s song "Rewind". Apologies, this is un-beta'd and all mistakes are my own. More notes at the end of the fic.
Word Count: 6,000+

...you've got amnesty.

I've been hearing from a fair number of people today who were panicking over the deadline and their uncooperative stories.

Now, I know what it's like when you're fighting with a story that just won't work or is fussing about how to start or is insisting on being longer than you expected (I had that happen back in January when my [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest story turned into something long enough to qualify for NaNoWriMo.)

So. Anyone who needs more time? You've got until August 15th. 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, to be precise.

And if you go past that...hey, you know I'm not going to kill you.

And now--poll!

[Poll #1599470]

(By the way, I'd like the stories from the general claimage prompts to be posted here. I only ask that, in the spirit of the ficathon, such stories be about women.

Also, yes, comedies are permitted.)

The date after which you can archive somewhere other than here OR the link at A3O is still August 7th. Incidentally, I'd still like to have more people posting their stories at A3O--it's a good place to post and to get the attention of other readers.

Title: Years To Learn Her Trade
Author: [livejournal.com profile] annearchy
Fandom: Leverage
Rating: PG
Length: 5,055 words
Warnings: A couple of swear words and some implied violence. Spoilers through episode 307.
Prompt: 86) You are about to begin the hero's journey. Travel well on the quest. A life of More is your birthright. Know the vast resources that reside in you and are provided for you in the world. You have raised the battle cry of There Must Be More Than This. -- Judith Wright (1915-2000), Australian poet, environmentalist, critic, and advocate of aboriginal land rights.
Summary: Before there was a Leverage Consulting & Associates, there was a girl who called herself Parker. This might be the story of how she became The Thief.
Author's Notes: “Even a thief takes ten years to learn his trade” - Japanese proverb

Includes a recognizable quote from the movie/TV series KUNG FU and several lines of dialogue from Leverage Season 1. This is my version of how Parker got to be Parker. While most of the story takes place prior to The Nigerian Job (ep 101), the catalyst for much of my take on Parker was The Inside Job (ep 303). Certain things may be recognizable as Leverage canon, while others come strictly from my imagination. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] avidbeader for beta-reading and to Beth Riesgraf and the writers of Leverage for creating such a wonderful, quirky character.

Title: Life Less Ordinary
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo
Fandom: The West Wing
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Prompt: 82) I really don't think life is about the I-could-have-beens. Life is only about the I-tried-to-do. I don't mind the failure but I can't imagine that I'd forgive myself if I didn't try. -- Nikki Giovanni (born June 7, 1943), African-American author and poet.
Summary: Amy Gardner's the one who first puts the idea out there
Author's Notes: I did my best with the presidential election system (with huge amounts of help from my friends list) but errors may remain, for which I apologise.
