I definitely had Gothic heroine tendencies. ;) Probably all the Gothic novels I was reading (and attempting to write) at the time.
And I know an English grad student who taught a course on Comedy of Manners from Jane Austen through Gossip Girl.
Oh, my! I would have loved a class like that! I've got a Gothic lit syllabus in my head that ends with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but haven't actually been able to implement it. And GG as a modern comedy of manners is just brilliant.
