In 1978, she led the first all-woman team up Annapurna I, a 26,200 ft mountain in the Himalayas, in what was the first successful American attempt. She also was deputy leader on the first all-women team climbing Mt. McKinley (20,320 feet) and was the first American woman to try to climb Mt. Everest (29,029 feet).
