I have never quite seen a Darkfic-GenFic, and thus am certain this is not the kind of story the marvellous moderators had in mind for this Ficathon, but once it popped into my head, I couldn't let it go.
I'll be back to read the actual story -- though I'm afraid I'm often bad about commenting -- but I'm puzzled by this. Did you actually mean that you've never seen a darkfic before that wasn't mainly about a pairing? I admit that I'm not entirely sure what does and doesn't qualify as "darkfic" -- I've seen people praise stories for their darkness that I thought were hopeful, and I've seen people unsatisfied with darkness unless it went much worse than I'd enjoy reading -- but I would have expected there to be a fair number of gen ones.
