Title: Faces of Pride, Feelings of Fear
Autor: [livejournal.com profile] catsintheattic
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Prompt: 35) We were all developing the same stubborn pride, behind which our frightened selves hid, pretending everything was all right. Esmeralda Santiago (born May 17, 1948), Puerto Rican author, co-founder of film and media production company Cantomedia, producer-writer of documentary and educational films, and activist on behalf of libraries, teens and battered women.
Summary: It has been a trying year for all of them. A series of vignettes.
Word count: 3,947
Author’s notes: I wish I could have done more of the women in the Harry Potter universe. I also had notes for Tonks and Fleur, for Luna and Ginny. But in the end, it came down to these eight: Petunia, Dolores, Hermione, Bella, Minerva, Pansy, Narcissa and Molly.
A huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] celta_diabolica for the ever excellent beta-reading and support!

Title: Missive
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kellychambliss
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Griselda Marchbanks, Minerva McGonagall
Rating: PG
Word Count: 3900
Prompt: 37) Someone will remember us / I say / even in another time -- Sappho, (born 630-612 B.C.E., died circa 570 B.C.E.), Greek poet.
Summary: "As a rule, it's easier to write what one feels than to say it. But it's always a good deal harder than one expects." Griselda Marchbanks writes a letter.

A/N: This story is not the one I started out to write -- that one, as per the prompt, was going to be set in another time. But my mental time-turner got stuck near the end of Order of the Phoenix, when McGonagall gets hit by four Stunners and is taken to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. So I wrote about that time instead of "another time." Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tetleythesecond, beta-reader extraordinaire.

~ ~

In Potter canon, we don't know Griselda Marchbanks's exact age, but when she comes to Hogwarts to supervise the O.W.L. exams in OoP, she's immensely old, and we learn that she administered Dumbledore's N.E.W.T.s. Canonically, Albus was born c. 1880; I've taken the liberty of birthing Griselda in 1870 (making her 27 at the time of Dumbledore's exams -- young for an examiner, perhaps, but that’s a story for another [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon).

Title: Majesty
Author: Kelly Chambliss kellychambliss
Fandom: Harry Potter

Characters: Minerva McGonagall, HRH
Word Count: 6000
Prompt: #60 -- Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from little things; knows not the livid loneliness of fear. --Amelia Earhart(July 24, 1897 -- missing July 2, 1937, declared dead January 5, 1939), American pilot and author; first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean; first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Summary: Once upon a time, there was a great queen and a powerful witch. . .
Author's Notes: I've interpreted the prompt very liberally. Courage is here, definitely, along with a bit of fear (since there can be no courage without it). And I think you'll find loneliness as well (though not connected to fear, I don't think). Peace? I believe so, but you may decide for yourself.  // There are several shifts in point of view; I hope they aren't too confusing.  My thanks to my excellent beta readers,[livejournal.com profile] therealsnape and [livejournal.com profile] mountainmoira.

Prompt: I saw my mother in a different light. We all need to do that. You have to be displaced from what’s comfortable and routine, and then you get to see things with fresh eyes, with new eyes. – Amy Tan (born February 19, 1952), Chinese-American author.
Summary: Just how did a new translation of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by Hermione Granger make it into Muggle bookstores? Minerva McGonagall explains.
Author's Notes I'm afraid this is only tangentially related to the prompt; I hope that's all right.

Rating: PG-13 (possibly R for some strong language)
Words: ~7,300
Content: DH-compliant
Prompt #2: Every day, every day I hear/ enough to fill/ a year of nights with wondering. -- Denise Levertov.
Summary: She was beautiful, intelligent, talented, successful – and not very nice about it. Clearly, other women must hate her.
Notes: Written for the 2007 [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon. I've been trying to write this story since HBP, when JKR first really wrote women's hatred of Fleur into canon. DH finally helped the story come to life a little bit more. As one of my betas wisely asked, "What are we really talking about when we talk about Fleur?" Many thanks to my beta team, [livejournal.com profile] accio_arse, [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke, [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole, and [livejournal.com profile] stephanometra, who read multiple drafts and asked all the tough questions. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi for running another [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon, always one of the highlights of my fandom year. :)

A Serpent to Sting You )

I got excited about the fengenficathon challenge back when it was first proposed, such that Molly Weasley's voice popped up unexpectedly in my head without even waiting for a prompt.
As I never got a chance to post it last year, I'm putting it up now.
When I recently saw the lovely lj graphic of the HP women, I'm afraid I screamed and pointed at the picture of Madame Hooch in the lower left and said, "Yes, exactly! That's it!" even though this story is actually about other people instead.

This story was Brit-picked by a wonderful beta-reader, who will have to step forward and claim credit because I've lost my original emails and some of my earlier story drafts in computer crashes and reformats. They made wonderful suggestions for edit improvements, too, so that the story was much improved. My apologies for not properly crediting you right here!

I should also warn those of you who are Lucius fans reading this story that Molly's attitude toward him, and mine, are not at all the same. Just mentioning, because it might be a little hard to tell that in this story.

Also, I'd offer a round of applause for seeing one of our mods, [livejournal.com profile] gehayi, back online!

As always, feedback and comments are welcome.

Title: Five Dead Women
Author: Snegurochka ([livejournal.com profile] snegurochka_lee)
Rating: R
Genres: Darkfic, Mystery, Drama
Characters: Lovegood, Tonks, Vance, McGonagall, Evans, Granger, others
Words: ~6,400
Warnings: Character deaths (4/5 canon); references to suicide and murder, references to pregnancy/childbirth complications, references to mental illness, adult language, HBP SPOILERS
Disclaimer:
Not my characters, and less than zero money is being made here; in fact, money is being spent. JK Rowling owns all, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Prompt: #45: Some there are who are much more ashamed of confessing a sin than of committing it. – Marguerite of Navarra, The Heptameron.
Many thanks to: [livejournal.com profile] dora_the_nymph, [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke, and a third lovely lady who prefers to go anonymous, for the quick, thorough, and punishing beta reads. I have never quite seen a Darkfic-GenFic, and thus am certain this is not the kind of story the marvellous moderators had in mind for this Ficathon, but once it popped into my head, I couldn't let it go. I hope it still qualifies as acceptable FemFic, and GenFic.
Summary: Five vignettes, seemingly unrelated and featuring diverse Potterverse women, explore the link between these women that will answer the question: why are five of them dead?

A woman killed on duty is still just another dead woman - and one less for all those blokes at the Ministry to have to worry about. )
