Title: Mater Familias
Author: [livejournal.com profile] vermin_disciple
Fandom: I, Claudius (leaning more towards mini-series-verse than book-verse)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Canon character death
Word count: 2,800
Prompt: 102) I woke in bits, like all children, piecemeal over the years. I discovered myself and the world, and forgot them, and discovered them again. -- Annie Dillard. This fit incredibly well with the original story I was writing, but that, unfortunately, crashed and burned. For this one I really didn't use it at all.
Summary: Antonia executes her daughter, and tries to live with her disappointing son.
Author's Notes: I've been threatening to write I, Claudius fic for years, due to my slightly scary love for the book, the mini-series and Roman history in general. This was a lovely excuse to finally post some. The first few lines of dialogue have been stolen directly from Episode 8: Reign of Terror, just after the fall of Sejanus. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dbassassin for beta-reading, and to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi for running this thing so well every year. Many apologies for my incredible and inexcusable lateness.

How long are you going to leave her in there? )

Summary: Parvati's Boggart is unexpected. Set in the summer between GoF and OotP and in the first week of OotP. Patil twins. 1485 words.
Author's Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fpb, [livejournal.com profile] ignipes and [livejournal.com profile] winding_path for beta-reading and also to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi for an extension.

Title: The Things We Thought That We Should Do
Author: [livejournal.com profile] wendelah1
Fandom: The X-Files
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: A couple of swear words and a questionable sense of morality
Prompt: 54) There is small disproportion betwixt a fool who useth not wit because he hath it not and him that useth it not when it should avail him. -- Elizabeth I of England (1533-1603), queen of England.
Summary: Diana Fowley contemplates her past as an F.B.I. Agent, and a member of the Syndicate, her present life as a fugitive, and her future as a woman living with breast cancer. This is an alternative universe in which, among other things, Diana does not die at the end of Amor Fati.
Author's Notes: My thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hummingfly67 for her awesome last minute beta services, to our moderator, [livejournal.com profile] gehayi, for her understanding in allowing me to post this late, and to [livejournal.com profile] idella for her friendship, her insightful feedback, and for loving to read stories about Diana.

Please note that there WILL be stories added to this--some people who have amnesty are going to be posting when they can, and some people will just be posting late. If this is your first year with FemGen (and therefore don't know this), posting late is not something I'm going to penalize anyone for, whether they have amnesty or not. When your story is done, post it and I'll add it to the memories and master list.

That said, here are all the stories that have been posted so far--LJ-cut to save FemGen's friends-list, of course.

Title: Starting Over
Author: [livejournal.com profile] snorkackcatcher
Fandom: The Sarah Jane Adventures (with Classic and New Doctor Who references)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: none
Word Count: ~5100
Prompt: #61 Invest in the human soul. Who knows, it might be a diamond in the rough. -- Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), American educator and civil rights activist; founder, in 1904, of a school for black girls which eventually became Bethune-Cookman University, a black university in Daytona Beach, Florida; and advisor to Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Vaguely used in the development of one character, but not the main theme.
Summary: Moving to America was supposed to be the end of Maria's alien- investigating activities. It was hard for her to forget them though. And sometimes it seems as if the universe so arranges itself that things just happen to some people ...
Author's Notes: Apologies for the last-minute nature of this! Light-hearted, but hopefully canon-compatible (and I note with relief that nothing in the first episode of the new series today actually contradicted it). In the SJA canon timeline, takes place shortly after Mark of the Berserker.

Sarah Jane had a theory that things simply happen to some people )

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1
Characters: Jeannie McKay, Carolyn Lam, John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Elizabeth Weir, Jack O'Neill, Catherine Langford
Rating: PG-13 for one swear word
Words: 8200
Warnings: Spoilers for "The Torment of Tantalus", "Lost City", "Reckoning", and "Threads" for SG-1, and "Rising" and "McKay and Mrs. Miller" for SGA
Prompt: 119. Authority has every reason to fear the sceptic, for authority can rarely survive in the face of doubt. ~ Vita Sackville-West (1892-1962), bisexual English poet, author, columnist, creator of the gardens of Sissinghurst Castle and member of the Order of the Companions of Honour.
Summary: In 2005, Jeannie McKay prepares for the trip of a lifetime: a possibly one-way ticket to the Pegasus galaxy in search of the lost city of the Ancients. Stargate AU in which Jeannie, not Rodney, as well Sam Carter, Carolyn Lam, and many more female scientists are part of the original Atlantis expedition in "Rising".
Author's Notes: With thanks to everyone who's been cheering on my girl-powered Stargate AU.

Prompt: 68) Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in. -- Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923), New Zealand writer of short fiction.
Summary: Charn is gone; nostalgia is useless. Jadis has new worlds to conquer, if she can only find the way.
Author's Notes: This is, about three times over, not the story I meant to write, though it is still about Jadis and her sister (after a fashion). Someday I will get those other stories finished as well. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] willowgreen for her speedy and insightful beta-reading!

Title: One Step at a Time
Author: [livejournal.com profile] opheliet
Fandom: The Office (US)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Very light swearing, some feelings/expressions of depression.
Prompt: 80) You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience by which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' -- Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), First Lady of the United States (1933-1945), advocate for civil rights, author, columnist, lecturer and delegate to the UN General Assembly (1945-1952).
Summary: Just one of the journeys of Pam Beesly, in lists.
Author's Notes: I always grit my teeth whenever I hear people talk about Pam not really being a strong female character, so what better place to combat that than this fest? So this is the result of exploring her character without all those silly boys in the way :P There aren't any spoilers for the current season (6) in here. Set during S3, so obviously spoilers for that. Feedback is enormously appreciated. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tearlit who brainstormed with me online during her grad school class, and gave me so many great ideas. I've got about five more plot bunnies hopping around from that.
Also many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi , who extended this wonderful fest for us, and who puts up with a lot. I know I look forward to this fest every year, and though it's been a hard year, and I'm still trying to figure out where my muse disappeared to, I hope you all enjoy this.

Summary: There are many stages of Ashe's journey where what should be or has been is now very different. Still, these unexpected changes, in direction or in thought push her toward a familiar yet altered goal.

Prompt: 1) The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone. – Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) American novelist and abolitionist.

Summary: Augusta Longbottom waits outside the Casualty ward at St. Mungo’s and thinks about her relationship with her daughter-in-law.

Author’s Note:  The concept of graveside is used rather broadly here. Thank you for giving me extended time to write this story. I’ve enjoyed this ficathon. I wish circumstances had allowed me to devote more time to it.  Thank you for the beta [info]rugi.  ETA: I found no less than three errors after posting. Two were missed  even after my beta pointed them out.  I have repaired them.  Sorry.

Summary: Scully reflects on her life and the choices she has made, and finally accepts the truth that is never easy to accept.
Author's Notes: This is the fifth time I’ve started something for this ficathon; the fifth story that I’ve tried to tell about these characters and this fandom with this prompt. The quote is so appropriate for almost every X Files character and I’ve written about Samantha, Scully, Teena and Diana. But this story was the one that most wanted to be told, so it’s the one that I’ve gone with. I hope that it’s ok. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hankmoodyblues for the beta.
