Title: Morning After
Author: [personal profile] venturous  (venturous1 at LJ)
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating: PG
Warnings: canon character death, blood
Words: 1776
For: femgenficathon on LJ
Prompt: 69) "My wish is to ride the tempest, tame the waves, kill the sharks. I will not resign myself to the usual lot of women who bow their heads and become concubines." -- Trieu Thi Trinh (225-248), 3rd-century Vietnamese revolutionary who led a rebellion against Chinese invaders. Known as "the Vietnamese Joan of Arc."

Summary: Hermione Granger wakes early on the day after Voldemort’s demise. The world looks different.

Author's Notes: I loved this prompt so much, and planned a grand fic for it, where a fierce Hermione stood up to a corrupt Ministry. Numerous attempts to write that fic produced nothing you would ever want to read. Instead, the Muse provided me with this meditative piece, which suits my other goal, to get to know this character better. Thanks to our mods for organizing this fest. And to six-of-one for the speedy beta!

Author’s notes: I wish I could have done more of the women in the Harry Potter universe. I also had notes for Tonks and Fleur, for Luna and Ginny. But in the end, it came down to these eight: Petunia, Dolores, Hermione, Bella, Minerva, Pansy, Narcissa and Molly.

Summary: Just how did a new translation of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by Hermione Granger make it into Muggle bookstores? Minerva McGonagall explains.
Author's Notes I'm afraid this is only tangentially related to the prompt; I hope that's all right.

Summary: Idealism is hard to balance against the rest of life.
Notes: This story is DH-compliant, including the epilogue, but ignores anything JKR may or may not have said in various post-book interviews (which I have not read), except the trio's adult jobs, which I inadvertently learned via internet osmosis. Prompt: I didn't exactly write with the prompt in mind. 118. We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.--Anais Nin.
Summary: After Harry and Ron die, Hermione must learn to live without them. ~2.5k words

Author Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon (prompt 18 - No good deed goes unpunished, -Clare Booth Luce). Quote again warped and bent to spawn this. The idea and first part of the outline have been floating about for quite a long time, but it took the fest and the quote to pull it together... and then wibble complete with nail chewing about its appropriateness or lack thereof for this challenge. I apologize in advance on behalf of the rabid bunnies that made me do it. Research material cheerfully gacked from wikipedia entries on Kitsune, foxes, red foxes, fox hunts, as well as other online and print sources of Japanese and Chinese folktales, and twisted them all (severely) to suit. As such, nothing at all is quoted directly, but oh man, am I educated now. One more spoilery note/disclaimer at the end. And dude. Prompt: #45: Some there are who are much more ashamed of confessing a sin than of committing it. – Marguerite of Navarra, The Heptameron.
Many thanks to: [livejournal.com profile] dora_the_nymph, [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke, and a third lovely lady who prefers to go anonymous, for the quick, thorough, and punishing beta reads. I have never quite seen a Darkfic-GenFic, and thus am certain this is not the kind of story the marvellous moderators had in mind for this Ficathon, but once it popped into my head, I couldn't let it go. I hope it still qualifies as acceptable FemFic, and GenFic.
