Finally got to read this...and oh my, such brilliance! I love Ellen and Cain, especially in this time period, but even more with the way they work together here. They're both drawn to the mystery almost for its own sake, which is fascinating given their characters—but also for the sake of justice, of course. And I love how Cain hires Amelia after finding out what happened because, oh yes, that's Cain, and when she's not in a hard position I love how she rolls.
